Catherine “Kate” Blommer

Catherine “Kate” Blommer, age 94, died peacefully in her Durham home on Thursday, March 17, 2016. Kate was born in Albany, MN to the late Louis and Clara Brandtner Dinndorf.

Kate, the eldest of six, was a compassionate big sister. She cherished her 52 year marriage to Earl, raised her children and ran her household with love and a sense of humor that will never be forgotten.

Kate is survived by her six children, Eric J. Blommer (Kathy) of Salt Lake City, UT; Andre Aman of Lincoln, NE; Georg L. Blommer of Big Water, UT; Craig J. Blommer (Peggy) of Chatfield, MN; Camille Blommer of Durham, NC; and Dylan Blommer also of Durham; one brother, Harold Dinndorf of Albany, MN; seven grandchildren, Michael, Becky, Amy, Anna, Charles, Megan and Justin; and three great-grandsons, Sam, Charlie and Kane. She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl J. Blommer; her brother, Louis P. Dinndorf; and sisters, Sr. Mary Ellen Dinndorf, OSF; Florence Dinndorf and Mary Ann Maiers.

The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to her primary caregivers, Camille and Dylan, along with Duke Hospice and special caregivers Connie Rubin and Laura Argiri.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2016 from Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Charley Miller, OFM, presiding. A reception will be held in the gathering space after mass followed by burial at St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 W. Main St. in Durham.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Durham County Special Olympics, Durham Parks & Recreation, 101 City Hall Plaza, Durham, NC 27701, Attn: Kristen Randall.
