Born in Charleston, South Carolina on July 23, 1920 she was the daughter of the late Marshall Frederick Murdaugh and Gertrude Munzenmaier Murdaugh.  She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-four years, James (“J.B.”) Ballard Brame and her brothers Marshall Frederick Murdaugh and Marion Edward Murdaugh.

She was recognized by The Durham Herald/Sun as Mother of the Year in 1967, an award wholeheartedly applauded by her children.  A talented cook Caroline enjoyed entertaining family, friends (especially her bridge club), and J.B.’s business associates as well as traveling, gardening, walking and shelling on the beach.

She is survived by her sons, James Ballard Brame, Jr. (Anita Wilkinson); Robert Marshall Brame (Martha Bynum), Randal Alan Brame (Leslie Jones), all of Durham, and her daughter, Linda Brame Hundley (James Davenport Hundley) of Wilmington, NC.  She is also survived by her grandchildren, James Davenport Hundley, Jr. (Cathrine Williams) of Wilmington, NC; Caroline Hundley Jones (David Stewart Jones) of Chapel Hill, NC, Elizabeth Brame Hundley of Wilmington, NC, Amy Brame Stanfield (Mercer Fales Stanfield) of Durham, Anna Brame Goodmon (James Fletcher Goodmon, Jr.) of Raleigh, NC, Martha Murdaugh Brame, Robert Marshall Brame, Jr. (Jennie Ledford), all of Durham, NC, Alice Brame Merritt (Robert Joel Merritt) of Raleigh, NC, Bailey Elizabeth Brame of Raleigh, NC and Randal Alan Brame II, (fiancée Tori Neese) of Charleston, SC.  “Mimi” was joyous over her great grandchildren Eliza, Stewart and Katherine Jones; Linden and Sydney Hundley; Jim, Mercer, May and Wren Stanfield; Fletcher, Watson, Walker and Frances Goodmon, Marshall and Chandler Brame; and Addisyn and R.J. Merritt.   Most special to Caroline in her final times were the staff at the Forest at Duke and her most dear companion, Lori Bowen.  The family will be forever grateful for their loving care.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at Maplewood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Watts Street Baptist Church, 800 Watts Street, Durham, NC 27701 or the charity of one’s choice.

Never forgot her or her family. She was actually den mother of my cub scout troop. An incredibly sweet, caring and gentle lady. It was some time ago but I remember her like I was still in that little band of cub scouts. Bless Her.

Never forget her, a wonderful den mother who hosted my cub scout troop for a number of years. What good times …all made possible by her graciousness and kindness. To say we learned a lot from her during that time is more that an understatement.

My sincere condolences to the family, particularly Jim, Bob, Randy and Linda

I’m so very sorry for your loss! What a amazing long life. She surely knew how much she was loved. Rarely does a family truly pull together and make a great effort to see their elderly parent daily. Growing old is not for the faint of heart. Randy , take comfort that you loved and cherished your mom every day. My thoughts are with you, Leslie and the entire family.

I was the mailman for Caroline and JB for many years when they lived on Stuart Dr. I have really missed seeing them. They both were so gracious to me and treated me like family. My mom Betty Best now of Greensboro was a good friend of Caroline.
