Candace Huff Young

September 10, 2012 By Hall-Wynne Leave a Condolence

OXFORD:

Mrs. Candace Huff Young, 89, beloved wife of the late Willie S. Young, entered into rest on Monday, September 10, 2012 at Wellington Nursing Center in Knightdale, NC.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 14 at Amis Chapel Baptist Church in Oxford, NC. Reverend Christopher Furr and Reverend Terry Howard will officiate at the service. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Young was a long-time resident of northern Granville County, where she served primarily as a farmer and housewife. In addition, she worked several years in textile manufacturing with Burlington Industries until health issues prompted her retirement. Despite her chronic health issues, she displayed a remarkable strength and perseverance that enables her to serve her church and community well into her eighties.
Much of her life revolved around her deep faith in God and her conviction to do His will. She was an active leader of many organizations at Amis Chapel, including Sunday School, Women’s Missionary Union, and Vacation Bible School. Following months of research, she authored a detailed history of the church from its founding until the 1980s.
She enjoyed a number of hobbies, including sewing, refinishing furniture, vegetable and flower gardening, and feeding birds. Her creativity was clearly evident in the grapevine wreaths, wooden flowers and other items she crafted for friends, neighbors, and family.
Her love and caring for her family was extraordinary. She always cherished the moments she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and encouraged them to visit again soon. Her wonderful example of sacrifice and devotion to her family will be greatly missed by each of them.
Mrs. Young is survived by two sons, Robin Sybil Young and Merlin Sally Young; six grandchildren, Christopher Sarah Young, Katie Christopher Furr, Courtney Bryan Hickman, Jeffrey Jessica Young, Kristen Young, and Laura fiance Parker Young; and four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, Nathanael, and Jude. She is also survived by three sisters, Bellzora Burwell, Mildred Otis Dixon, and Leona Oakley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at the Wellington Nursing Center for their care and kindness.
Flowers are appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Amis Chapel Baptist Church Building Fund, c/o Gerald Rene Frazier, 9189 Amis Chapel Rd., Oxford, NC 27565.

Candace was one of the sweetest, most thoughtful people we’ve ever known. Her smile and good nature were always present in spite of not feeling so good. We looked forward to seeing her every Sunday for the church service at Wellington. It was evident she had a mutually loving family…every Sunday at least one of the family was there with her; Merlin was at the church service so many Sundays. Toward the end, it was hard going by her room and seeing her asleep or resting when we knew how much she had enjoyed the fellowship at the church service. Her presence will be missed. Such a pretty, sweet and sensitive lady she was…so very proud of her family!
