Brooke Elizabeth Hester Thompson, 34, passed away peacefully after a 7 year courageous battle with ACC (adrenal cortical carcinoma). Brooke was passionate about living life to the fullest. Being diagnosed with a rare cancer would steal most people’s joy; however, Brooke didn’t let cancer win. Brooke was an advocate, encouraged and friend to many people diagnosed with ACC. Brooke never met a stranger and had a sense of humor and smile that would light up any room; she was always the life of the party!
Brooke graduated from Southern High School and Watts School of Nursing in Durham. Brooke was a nurse at Duke Hospital until she no longer could physically work. In her spare time, she enjoyed going to the beach, listening to music, reading and watching movies; but most of all, spending time with her family. Brooke married the love of her life and they had a daughter. Maycee was Brooke’s world and she loved every minute of being a mom. Brooke would want you to know that cancer didn’t get the upper hand; rather, it was simply her time to go home. Brooke had a love for Jesus and one of her favorite bible verses was Jeramiah 29:11 “ For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Brooke found her strength and hope in Jesus and that’s who helped her surpass all medical odds and statics.
