Bonnie Lee Reed

August 1, 2016 By Hall-Wynne 16 Condolences

Bonnie Lee Reed, 64, of Weaverville, NC, died at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC on August 1, 2016 surrounded by her family after courageously fighting leukemia.
Bonnie was born to Ward Benjamin Smith and June Doris Hollar in Roslyn, NY on November 12,1951. She was very creative and enjoyed crafts such as sewing, needlepoint, and crocheting. Her husband Ken, of 46 years, made many special memories together camping all over the east coast and going on cruises together. Bonnie was selfless of her time and talents by giving back to her community as she volunteered so many hours as a girl scout leader, teacher’s aide, and death support volunteer. She was also actively involved with a Women’s Sorority, Beta Sigma Phi where she was a life-time member.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Ken Reed Sr. of Weaverville, NC; son, Ken Reed Jr. (Michelle) of New Port Richey, FL; daughter, Roslyn Carney of Alexander, NC (J.P.); grandson (whom Bonnie loved to ‘the moon and back’), “Reed” Carney; her mother, June Smith of Hudson, Fl; and brothers, Ward Smith of Chatsworth, GA and Wayne Smith of New Port Richey, FL. and what Bonnie and Ken considered extended family, their neighbors of many years. Bonnie is predeceased by her father Ward “Smitty” Smith.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date with family and close friends.
The Reed family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Online condolences: www.hallwynne.com, select obituaries.

The Saguil Clan offers our condolences to the Reed Family. We remember Mrs. Reed as a wonderful lady with a beautiful soul. My mother fondly remembers all those Friday nights with Mrs. Reed and the most excellent fun with band uniforms. All of you are in our prayers.

When my mom passed away, I was so surprised(why I don’t know) how much of an impression she made on people’s lives. Let me express in my life, how much Bonnie was loved. She was my sister in Beta Sigma Phl. Always going out of her way volunteering for committees. We always joked, het birthday was the same day as my husband. Between Roslyn and Bonnie, they were going to Fantastic Sam if I didn’t do their hair right! When both moved to NC I missed them so. Well miss Bonnie you have moved again into heaven. I’ll see you again when God calls me home. I know you’ll be waiting for me to do your hair. Yes she WILL have hair and red hair to boot! Love you my friend.

Mr. Ken and family, I am so very sorry for your loss of Bonnie. I was her nurse at the Cancer Center and was so very fond of her. We hit it off from the beginning. She was a blessing every time I saw her. We so enjoyed comparing notes on our grandbabies. Please know I am praying for you all!

Dear Ken and Family, All though we only meet one time on the Carnival Dream, which was my birthday cruise, we really got to know Bonnie and just thought the world of her. Bonnie and I became friends and she made me feel like we had known each other forever..She was a warm, sincere and beautiful person who loved her family, her 4 legged “babies” and cruising .. Just so very sorry to hear of Bonnie’s passing and sending our deepest sympathy to you and your beautiful family that she was so very, very proud of .. Hugs Sue and Greg Honaker
