Andrew Weston Hobbs, 1 month, died on Friday, October 30, 2009. Andrew was born in Durham at Duke Medical Center on October 1, 2009 to Gene and Becky Hobbs.

Andrew was a brave boy with more courage and strength than one could imagine. He meant more to his family in his short life than can be explained in words. We hope that his example in life will allow others to appreciate the time they have with their own loved ones. We will forever love you Andrew and live for the moment we can be with you again in Heaven.

Andrew is survived by his parents; grandparents Tom and Carol Glass of Lakeland, FL, Jack Jones of Astor, FL, and Gene and Carlotta Hobbs of Fayetteville, NC; aunts and uncles Bryan and Susan O’steen of Lakeland, FL, and Joshua and Katie McEwen of Lakeland, FL.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations in Andrew’s name be made to either The Association of Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia Research, Awareness, and Support CHERUBS, www.cdhsupport.org or The Parker Reese Foundation, PO Box 2199, Elizabethtown, NC 28337. My sincere and deepest sympathy to you, the family of Andrew. I also lost a son, Robert Trent Jones, to this same defect 40 years ago. He only lived 2 1/2 hrs but long enough to cement his face in my heart and soul. I pray for strength to help you heal from his loss but know his love will live on forever. As my pastor told me 40 years ago…”God doesn’t make all things perfect. He gives to those strong enough to handle HIS imperfection.” I am available if you would ever like to talk.

Prayers and peace be with you,
Karen Jones

Becky and Gene, I won’t be able to attend the memorial service for Andrew but I wanted you both to know that I am thinking and praying for all of you. I can’t imagine how you must feel but you should find some comfort in knowing that Andrew is being taken care of and that he is in Heaven with Jesus. Becky and Gene, The heartache of loosing such a precious gift is overwhelming. The two of you and Andrew were blessed with having each other, even if only for a short time. Condolence from Sharon Hawks on November 2nd, 2009 12:00 am

Gene & Becky, I so sorry that my family and I have been out of town and were unable to attend Andrew’s memorial. Please know that you have constantly been in our thoughts and prayers. My daughters, Makena and Gabrielle, have asked me to check Andrew’s blog everyday for updates. They were especially saddened to hear that he had left this life to be “back with the angels again.” About a week ago, we went to Build-a-Bear and the girls picked out a dog for Andrew who they appropriately named “Hero.” Of course they dressed him in a Duke shirt and hat and also recorded a special message for him. As you know, the girls did not get the chance to give this gift to Andrew but they would like for you to have it if and when you are ready. We love you all very much and know that Andrew is “with the angels again.” He was such an inspiration to my daughters and they will never forget him.

Mr. and Mrs. Hobbs,

Please accept my sincere condolences on the death of your beautiful child. I saw his picture and was deeply touched, for he did look like a brave and strong child. I pray for God’s precious comfort and peace for you and your family. You won’t recognize my name; I simply wanted you know that your child touched my heart and caused me to send this message of comfort to you.

Condolence from Katie on November 3rd, 2009 12:00 am

Andrew loved so many through those beautiful eyes. Thank you for being the best parents a child has ever had. He was fighting with you. Your strength amazes me!

Dear Becky and Gene,
Our hearts continue to overflow with love for you during this time of sorrow. We thank God for the gift you gave us in Andrew, who will be forever in our hearts, as will the two of you. The example set by the three of you during this time taught us how to love more deeply than ever before. We continue to lift you up in prayer for God’s comfort and peace in the days and months ahead. You are both so loved.
