Alice H. Lipe
Mrs. Alice Hochuli Lipe, 97, peacefully went upstairs to be with her Savior on Tuesday morning, February 28, 2006 at her home on Wake Forest Highway. <br><br>Mrs. Lipe was born in Switzerland to the late Walter and Berta Suder Hochuli. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church and the Friendship Sunday school class. <br><br>Mrs. Lipe was the widow of the Reverend G. Charles Henry Allen, age 86, of 4014 Berini Drive, died Friday evening at Durham Regional Hospital. He was born September 27, 1919 in Bunn Level, NC to Carlton & Josephine Byrd Allen. He retired from Liggett&Myers Tobacco Co. and served his country in the US Navy during WW II. Charles was an avid golfer and attended Durham Primitive Baptist Church. Stewart Parks Alexander, Jr.
Stewart Parks Alexander, Jr., 84, died Wednesday following an extended illness. He was born October 17, 1921 to Stewart P. and Josephine Thompson Alexander. Mr. Alexander attended Durham City Schools, graduating from Durham High School. He attended the Severn School prior to entering the U.S. Naval Academy. After graduation, he served his Country during WW II in the Pacific, earning the rank of lieutenant. Lois Ferguson Byrd, age 85, died Monday morning, February 13, at Croasdaile Village. She was born in Buffalo, NY to the late Andrew L. and Florence Hopkins Ferguson. Mrs. Byrd moved to Durham in 1926 and graduated from Durham High School in 1939. She was an active member of University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill where she taught elementary Sunday school and served as Sunday school secretary. Mrs. Emma Mangum Turrentine, 81, died Saturday morning in Durham Regional Hospital. A native of Granville county, she was the daughter of the late Steven and Lula Evans Turrentine. She lived in New York City for most of her adult life and moved to Durham in 1972. Surviving are one daughter, Jean Louretta Jackson of Suitland, MD. and one son Luther S. William Fuller Mansfield, Jr. Bill, 85, died Saturday morning at Pettigrew Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. Bill was born in Durham on March 11, 1920 and was the son of the late W. Fuller Mansfield, Sr. and Margaret Steele Mansfield. He married Helen Glenn Foust, the love of his life, on June 7, 1941. They were married for 62 years before her death in 2003. Louise Murray Keir, 94, of Croasdaile Village passed away peacefully on Friday, February 10, 2006. She was born in Durham County to the late William Guthrie and Lila Elizabeth Workman Murray. Louise was educated in the Durham Public Schools and graduated in 1929 from Durham High School. She then took advanced studies in English at Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill.
