History

In 1904, J.S. Hall and George V. Wynne established Hall-Wynne & Co. in downtown Durham. The firm relocated to its present Main Street site in 1926, to the first built-for-the-purpose mortuary in the Southeast. A Greek revival masterpiece, Hall-Wynne combines home-like, vintage surroundings with state-of-the-art facilities and services suited to contemporary needs and practices. Despite the trend of corporate consolidation, we proudly maintain our distinction as a privately owned and operated company, directly accountable to the families we serve.

Mark T. Higgins and C. Michael Poole purchased Hall-Wynne in 1992, and expanded with the purchase of Griffin Funeral Service in nearby Pittsboro in 1997, and Franklin Funeral Service in Franklinton in 2001 and Gentry-Newell & Vaughan Funeral Home in Oxford in 2006. In 2005, funeral director, Michael O'Connor, became a stockholder in the company.

A tradition of compassion and dependability since 1904.
