Caskets
There are two basic types of casket construction - wood and metal.
Metal caskets are made of bronze, copper, stainless steel, or various weights (gauges) of carbon steel. Metal caskets are featured in a variety of colors and finishes.

Wood Caskets are available in a variety of types and species: mahogany, walnut, cherry, maple, pine and poplar. They are hand-crafted like fine furniture showing their natural and unique graining features. These caskets are the choice of families who appreciate the warmth and beauty of natural wood.

Vaults
In most areas of the country, state, or local law does not require that you buy a container to surround the casket in the grave. However, many cemeteries require that you have such a container so the grave will not sink in. Either a grave liner or a burial vault will satisfy these requirements. A vault is also designed to provide protection of the casket. Burial vaults differ in quality and construction, based on the weight and lining.

Cremation Caskets/Containers
Cremation caskets and containers are available in a wide variety of styles and prices and are made of fully combustible materials suitable for the crematory. The primary purpose of a cremation container is to shelter the body for North Carolina's required 24 hour waiting period. Some of the containers are ornamental because today many families opt for either a private viewing or a public ceremony prior to cremation. Hall-Wynne also offers two rental (ceremonial) caskets for temporary use during the funeral ceremony before cremation. The rental casket is an economical and practical choice for the growing number of people choosing cremation, not as a substitute for a funeral, rather as the preference for final disposition. Alternative containers are also available; however, they offer no interiors and are constructed of cardboard.

Cremation Urns
Cremation Urns provide the vessel in which to memorialize the deceased. While a cremation urn serves to safeguard the cremated remains, it should also reflect the personality of the deceased individual. Cremation urns are made from a variety of natural and man-made materials. They can be simple and quite inexpensive or intricate and as costly as a one-of-a kind sculpture. Before a cremation urn is selected, some thought should be given to the final placement of the urn. If the urn is to be kept at home, them something more decorative might make sense. If it to be buried in a cemetery, then an urn crafted out of something durable would work nicely. The presence of the urn at the memorial service might also impact the selection as well. Many families choose to select multiple urns to divide into portions of the cremated body.
