Flora Lloyd Pickett, of Durham, died peacefully on the morning of October 6, 2017, just seventeen days shy of her 90th birthday.
Flora was born October 23, 1927, in Hillsborough, the daughter of Myron and Mae Lloyd. She graduated from Hillsborough High School and earned degrees in Christian Education from Mars Hill College, which she entered at the age of sixteen, and New Orleans Baptist Seminary.
She was a devoted wife to Hubert Pickett, her husband of 54 years, who died in 2005. Her younger brother, Bill, also preceded her in death. Flora and Hube were charter members of Cresset Baptist Church, which she served in many ways through the decades, making use of her talents in music and education. She deeply loved her family: daughter, Belinda Pickett and her husband Michael McFee of Durham; son, David Pickett and his wife Shalini of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; son, Neal Pickett and his wife Patrice of Charlotte; and grandchildren Philip, Shaan, Sonali, Duncan, and Henry. In addition, she is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Lloyd, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to acknowledge the kind and capable care given to Flora by the Seasons at Southpoint staff and by Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 11, at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service Chapel, 1113 West Main Street, Durham. The family will receive friend’s before-hand, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family of Ms. Pickett. We too were charter members of Cresset Baptist (originally organized under the name of Fellowship Baptist Church . We have fond memories of those days with the earlier congregation there, and all the many activities we were involved in together. We will sincerely miss Flora just knowing she is gone, be there is certainly no doubt as to where she is now. Our condolences to all of the family… Belinda, David, and Neal, and to the Worthingtons; Bill, Chuck, and Susan in the loss of your aunt. She was a fine Christian lady.
Ms. Betty H. Yandle, and Son, Steve
